Simple Tricks to Make Your Room Look Bigger

Ever wondered how TV Shows, Designers, Home Stagers, etc make even the smallest rooms feel spacious? Here are 3 simple tricks to make your home or office look bigger. Transform your Raleigh home to look more open and inviting.

1. CHOOSE SOFT TONE PAINT COLORS

Consider painting the wall, trim, and detailing different shades of one color.  Then paint the ceiling another color to draw the eye upward.  Choose a light and neutral color palette as these colors better reflect light. Also, use window treatments that are similar to your wall color or even sheer.  Lightweight sheer curtains can make your small room look spacious by taking advantage of as much natural light as possible.

2. HANG CURTAINS CLOSE TO THE CEILING

Hang curtain rods close to the ceiling or at least 4-6 inches above the window frame to draw the eye upward, creating an illusion of height.  Extend the rods 3-6 inches beyond the window frame to maximize the width, making windows feel much wider.

3. USE FEWER LARGE PIECES VERSUS MANY SMALL ONES

Select a few larger pieces to fill your room versus numerous smaller ones.  An oversized framed mirror either on or against a wall will make any room feel bigger.  A sofa or chair raised on its legs will create a sense of light and openness. A coffee table with a glass top or mirror will also provide the same room enlarging effect as a mirror.  Pull furniture away from the wall and leave some empty space to make your home or office feel airy and inviting!!!
