cellular shades in Raleigh NC

Interior Honeycomb Cellular Shades for a Custom-built Home in Wake Forest

Honeycomb cellular shades are one of the most popular items at Made in the Shade Raleigh. And for a good reason! Cellular shades are attractive, versatile and energy-efficient. They come in a variety of colors and light-control levels from sheer to blackout.

What Are Honeycomb Cellular Shades?

Cellular shades are made from one continuous piece of fabric and fold up along pleats, like an accordion. Their energy-efficient quality comes from the honeycomb-shaped air pockets or cells they are made up of. Those air pockets create a layer of insulation between your window and the ambient temperature in the room. Over time, they will save you money in heating and cooling costs. Cellular shades come in single cell or double or even triple cells. For homes in climates with extreme hot or cold climates,or where noise is a concern, the double or triple cell is recommended. For homes in moderate climates, single cell will work well in your home.

We recommend cellular shades when our client is looking for shades to help control the light in a room. Blackout cellular shades help control the light and reduce glare on a TV. They also increase the privacy of a room.

Cellular shades are available in four opacity levels: sheer, semi-sheer, semi-opaque and opaque. Sheer cellular shades are best for gaining maximum natural light in a space. Semi-sheer allows for gentle light filtering, and semi-opaque for medium light filtering and room darkening. Opaque, also called blackout, is the best choice for true room darkening, most desired for bedrooms and media rooms.

Motorized vs Manually Operated Honeycomb Cellular Shades

There are also several options for the operation of your honeycomb cellular shades. The motorized features allow you to control your shades at the touch of a button. A remote is used to open and close your shades with ease. Cellular shades can also be operated manually, either top down or bottom up, allowing you to lower the shades from the top, raise them from the bottom or both. The cordless option is a great safety feature that removes the hanging cord, which can be a safety hazard to young children or pets.

Our client in Wake Forest had a new build that needed window treatments throughout the house. For this project, we installed faux wood blinds in the main living areas and cellular shades in the bedrooms, along with an elegant sheer shade in the master bathroom A year later, the homeowners asked us to come back to install blackout shades in the finished basement bonus room.

This project came from a referral from their neighbors. We had installed window treatments in several other homes in the neighborhood. Referrals are the main source of our client base, and we especially appreciate repeat customers like this!

For the bedrooms and, eventually, the basement media room, we chose a combination of motorized and manual top down bottom up cellular honeycomb shade from Norman USA. They provide the best quality for room darkening and privacy at an affordable price point and a high quality. We chose the Smart Fit design for the manual shades. With this design, the cord is concealed to the side for a more attractive look. The client wanted something elegant for the master bathroom so we recommended a Graber Sheer Shade. It’s a 3-inch sheer fabric vein, with a fabric cassette valance top treatment, and continuous cord loop operation

The project took around four weeks, and we were able to stay within the budget for the client. Overall, the project was a success, and the homeowner was satisfied with the quality and craftsmanship of the product.
